About the Author
Karen Katz has written and illustrated more than fifty picture books and novelty books including the bestselling Where Is Baby’s Belly Button? After graduating from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, she attended the Yale Graduate School of Art and Architecture where she became interested in folk art, Indian miniatures, Shaker art, and Mexican art. My daughter adores this book. She reads it over and over again and loves the story of Grandma coming for a visit. Like some of the other reviewers I don't like that the story focuses a lot on gifts from Grandma to the little girl. When we read it we focus on how excited the girl is to see her Grandma and how much they enjoy spending time together. My daughter loves lifting the flags in the book and the flaps are fairly sturdy.
This was absolutely adorable! We have two other of these books where is babies bellybutton and where is babies pumpkin! They are all some of my daughters favorite books. The illustrations are great and the quality of the flaps is good. I got this because my mother was coming to visit and my daughter hasn’t seen her grandma in over year and it was a great way to prepare her for the visit. Then my mom enjoyed reading it to her when she got here! It was adorable to see the two of them together reading this book. Highly recommend for for two-year-olds!
What I like: It's nice to have a book all about Grandma. It has a lot of interesting things behind the flaps.What I don't like: It's mostly about gifts the Grandma gives the girl. I don't want my daughter to greet her Grandma with "What did you bring me?"
My 16 month old loves the Karen Katz books, and she is obsessed with the grandma and grandpa books! This one is cute, behind the flaps are Grandma, a teddy bear, cookies, flowers, a nightgown, and a kiss. My daughter knows what is behind each flap and calls out the item before opening the flap. Highly recommend!
My grandson loves these books. So colorful and easy to read.
My 3 year old granddaughter first introduced this book to me while I was at her house for a visit awaiting the birth of her new little sister. My first thought was, "well it's a board book so it'll be too simple for it to be good"... I read it the first night at bedtime, then the second night, then the third night and it continued on for the entire month I was there! LOL....sure we both knew it by heart very quickly and would read it out loud together, but that was half the fun. I'd do funny voices when I read it and sometimes changed a few of the words to kind of mix it up...But she enjoyed it so very much EVERY time. When I got back to the state where I live, I bought my own copy (just because I'm a kid at heart and I wanted to have something tangible of those beautiful reading memories with her.) I was further rewarded one day when she was having a hard time taking her afternoon nap. When my daughter called, I asked if I could talk to my little "Peanut"...I told her to go get her book and I would read it to her and she had to follow along and open all the little flaps. She did of course and she giggled the whole way through as if it were the first time she was hearing it. It was another priceless moment for this grandma...and she didn't have any trouble going down for her nap after that either. It's amazing what will capture a little ones attention. Sometimes we adults make things too complicated. As for me, I love to see things through the eyes of a child.
Even though my granddaughter calls me Nana this is one of our favorite books to read at night it was how very well written and we enjoy it .
My daughter is obsessed with this book. It’s about six pages, one sentence and one flap per page, but lots of fun to my soon to be 3 year old. Perfect book to read before nap or bed
