This book's front cover boasts "over 40,000 celebrity addresses, everyone who is anyone." That's not quite accurate. I've discovered a number of people who were omitted or just plain forgotten. That aside, the book does include addresses for most mainstream celebs, musicians and athletes and presents them in a straightforward, alphabetical listing.But a word of caution: keep in mind that celebs change agents/managers often, which means their mailing addresses change often too. So this book's shelf life is limited.What this book sorely lacks is additional information to accompany each listing. For example, has the address for Brad Pitt been tested to see if it is accurate? And, if it has, has anyone (the author?) had success in contacting Pitt that way? This is the stuff that matters if you're a novice (or even exprienced) autograph collector. An address will do you no good if the recipient doesn't read (or get) their fan mail.Ultimately, though, the book only promises to give addresses, and that's what it does. These addresses have been culled from contactanycelebrity.com, which isthe book's companion Web site. When you buy the book, you can mail/fax in a registration form, giving you one month's free access to the Web site's vast database. That's a nice extra. All in all, the book is good, but a bit pricey for what it delivers given its limited shelf life.

I must say I'm quite overwhelmed by all the people listed in this book. It's got almost everyone you know of and more! I'm very impressed. The only thing that I think is "wrong" with this book is that they haven't written the title of everyone, so on some people you don't know who they are, but it's not that many. I was very very surprised to find David Mark Chapman's address (prison) in there. Of course it didn't say what he is, although pretty much everyone knows anyway. It seems that some of the addresses are to people's homes. You've got addresses to musicians, politicians, journalists, actors, athletes, writers, Nobel prize winners, doctors, anyone you can think of in the whole world!! It's a treasure! On the website they've got about 10.000 more addresses (I wonder why they didn't put them all in the book??) This is really the ultimate Celebrity Address book I've ever seen. Buy it!

Locations not valid

If you are looking for movie stars, this might be a great book. I bought this book (the 2005 edition) primarily to locate artists (e.g., photographers, painters, sculptors). The book is basically useless in this regard. Proportionately speaking, there are extremely few listings of those types of artists. Ironically, even well-known, i.e., "celebrity" artists are omitted, as are lesser known but important ones. The few listed are seemingly random, including comic strip "artists." Worse, several of those listed are either very old (no longer working) or dead. I wonder if the addresses given are for cemeteries? Actually, the addresses for the few artists of interest to me were most often wrong based upon a simple cross reference search on the web. Of course, that also makes me question the accuracy of the other listings. This seems a useful resource for those interested in actors, random athletes and opera singers, but for any other interest--it simply needs to be updated.

I've been buying this book for years. As stated in other reviews, the books are not as useful as time goes by due to the change in managers, addresses, etc.. However, that is the nature of the business. The book is not going to automatically update itself! What I have learned is that the updated version have the most up to date info on addresses you can find. It is definitely worth the buy. Just make sure you update every year to have the most up to date info. Great book! Keep up the good work!

I rated it just OK because I failed to notice the publication date of this book. So many persons that I want to look up are not there because 2005 was too long ago. I should have been more careful, and I will be from here on out when I order books.

I purchased this book for my husband who collects autographs, mostly through the mail now that we don't live in LA. He loves it! He uses the book on a regular basis to write to sports figures, politicians and actors/actresses. So far we have had good luck with the addresses listed.

The Celebrity Black Book is a great book for anyone looking to contact a celebrity. It has absolutely everyone in it!! After buying this book, my autograph collection has increased greatly due to the accuracy of these addresses. After writing several different celebs, I got many responses back. I advise anyone looking to contact a celebrity to buy this book.

DAR is one of my top 5 RPG settings, and the book is an absolutely indespensible resource for gamemasters who don't have a lot of time to design adventures. The adventure generator in the book is worth the price of admission all by itself, and works for any setting.And the setting? Man, is it fun. It's like Conan the Barbarian meets Band of Brothers; The Untouchables meets James Bond after the apocalypse. So many excellent ideas packed into this compact little work of design mastery. Buy it!

I had high hopes for this setting, as Hite's works are usually grand. Unfortunately, I didn't find Day After Ragnarok as exciting as it sounded from other reviews, and people talking about the book. It is passable, and well written, but it just doesn't have a spark to it that says "play me, right now!" Which I feel all pulp settings should have. It could have used a longer work to truly go into some of the details that are sadly glossed over, and built a few more "strange" ideas than the singular one of the dead Jormundgyr serpent--throwing in more Norse Myth, perhaps some pulp/Nordic magic, or the like.

This is the dark alternate future of Spirit of the Century. The Nazis summoned the Midgard Serpent and it crushed everything beneath it and flooded all the coastal areas with tidal waves. The world is being poisoned by the corpse's venom and blood and soon the world will die. But there are heroes trying to save what is left and maybe - maybe - turn the tide.

LOVE everyththing about this setting! My only issue is the small typesetting in some of it as well as the lack of a plot point. Honestly, after reading this book the ideas just flow into your head. There is a bit of political ideas in it but I think you can use as much or as little as you'd like. There is enough background to do a lot with but there is also a lot of room to come up with your own. Reading the book does not feel like reading just another game book. The material is delivered in a way that you are sucked into the world. I have yet to start running it but I am currently between two ideas. One idea being a mission based campaign where the players are scouting, rescuing, and rebuilding the US. The other is more of a survival horror where our heroes come from the ruined east coast of the US and are looking for sanctuary. I would like to combine the ideas in this setting with some of our own folklore.

There isn't praise enough for this two fisted occult adventure guide book. Buy it ASAP! Kenneth Hite is at top form here doing what he does best, creating a wild alternate history for an earth gone mad.

This is one of the coolest sword & sanity (see link on my profile for more on this genre) settings I have ever read.Imagine if the Nazis wanted to summon forth the Midgard Serpent, and unleash it upon the world. Now imagine it worked, ushering forth the day of Ragnarok. Jörmungandr is released upon the face of the earth, along with global chaos and mass destruction. As a last ditch effort the Allies initiate "Operation John Henry" and a lone B-29 named Strange Cargo armed with atomic explosives is sent on a suicide mission to slay the beast. The plane reaches its target, and miraculously manages to kill the Serpent with a megaton atomic blast to the head. But this was not a victory. The earth was changed... spoiled. Atomically radiated venomous blood rained down, and the body of the Midgard Serpent fell, causing tidal waves and earth quakes. Its carcass lay dead stretching from Scotland to Sicily. Madness ensues, and adventure begins...The setting offers many challenges, including: giants, hydra, serpent cults, mutated animals and insects that have grown to monstrous proportions (giant snakes abound), and don't forget the other survivors of the apocalypse. Characters can range from arcane scholar to barbarian, secret agent to outlaw, and many other possibilities. Even if you do not use Savage Worlds as the game system I feel the setting presented it strong enough to purchase this book anyway. Use the setting and power it with whatever game system you like.

There are a number of books that provide a theology of the work of the Holy Spirit. Likewise, there are also a number of books that critique the charismatic movement, pointing out its excesses and disputing its biblical foundation. However, it is rare to find a book that both affirms that God is at work in the charismatic movement and also rejects the major claims of that very same movement. But in "Keep in Step with the Spirit: Finding Fullness in our Walk with God", J.I. Packer has done just that. In just 200 pages or so, Packer lays out a positive theology of the work of the Holy Spirit and issues challenges to both cessationists and charismatics. So what will you find inside? Let's me give you an overview.Before Packer begins to lay out a theology of the Spirit or seriously assessing charismatic claims, he uses chapter 1 to highlight and question some assumptions about the operation of the Spirit which are common in charismatic circles. First is the question of power (p.24-6). The Spirit is often viewed as something which you "switch on and use" (p.26 emphasis original) and which helps one to "perform" better, be that holy living or miraculous gifting (p.27). This focus on power for performance instead of on purity results in a man-centeredness which "does not take us to the heart of the truth about the Spirit" (p.31). Rather, the work of the Spirit is to glorify Jesus. This primary work of the Spirit is highlighted in John 16:13 ("He will take what is mine and declare it to you"), a verse which Packer returns to frequently throughout the book.Following on from his thesis that the primary role of the Spirit is to glorify Jesus, Packer lays out his understanding of the ministry of the Holy Spirit in chapter 2. To help readers understand how the Holy Spirit and Christ relate, Packer uses the illustration of a floodlight (p.57). A well placed floodlight does not call attention to itself but instead casts light upon some other object. The Holy Spirit's role is to direct the attention and faith of Christian believers to the person and work of Christ, not to Himself. The Spirit gives us new birth in Christ (p.58), teaches us about Christ, and causes us to confess & follow Christ (p.65). The witness of the Spirit makes us "sure that the apostles' Christ is real and is ours" (p.65). The Spirit assures us of Christ's love for us poured out at the cross (p.66).After reaffirming in chapter 3 the spotlight ministry of the Spirit, and reminding us of the attention given to personal holiness by previous generations, Packer spends chapter 4 laying out three primary understandings of sanctification within evangelicalism, namely the Augustinian view, the Wesleyan Perfectionist view, and the Keswick view (named after the annual Bible conference which formerly emphasized this teaching). The Augustinian view acknowledges man's continual struggle against sin and temptation, even after conversion, and emphasizes the believer's need to actively fight against sin while optimistically expecting the Spirit to empower and progressively free one from sin. Wesleyan Perfectionism claims that it is possible for believers to reach a point where, in a single moment, the Holy Spirit roots out of their hearts all motives but love. Though originally taught by him, John Wesley never claimed to have attained this state of "sinless perfection". The Keswick view, which grew out of Wesleyan Perfectionism, also affirmed the possibility of "sinless perfection". In contrast to Wesley's view, Keswick taught that the way to attain perfection was not through active seeking, but through passivity. Those who desire a holy life should "let go and let God" by entirely consecrating themselves to Him. After comparing the strengths and weaknesses of each, Packer asserts his belief that the Augustinian view is the most well grounded, in both Scripture and reality. Packer reaches this conclusion not only by biblical and rational arguments but by reflection upon his own personal experience as a new Christian at Oxford in the 1940s."he had heard and read his teachers describing a state of sustained victory over sin. It was pictured as a condition of peace and power in which the Christian, filled and borne along by the Holy Spirit, was kept from falling and was moved and enabled to do things for God which were otherwise beyond him... But [his] experience as he tried to follow instructions was like that of the poor drug addict whom he found years later trying with desperate concentration to walk through a brick wall.... According to the teaching, all that ever kept Christians from this happy life was unwillingness to pay the entry fee - in other words, failure to yield themselves fully to God. So all he could do was repeatedly reconsecrate himself, scraping the inside of his psyche till it was bruised and sore in order to track down still unyielded things by which the blessing was perhaps being blocked. His sense of continually missing the bus, plus his perplexity as to the reason why he was missing it became painful to live with, like a verruca or a stone in your shoe that makes you wince with every step you take. (p.128-129)Though Packer is a brilliant theologian, it is pastoral rather than academic concerns that drive this book, clearly illustrated by passages like this one. As a young Christian, Packer was tormented by the "unrealities of overheated holiness teaching" (p.129) and longs to see others find the same freedom that he did.In chapters 5 and 6, we see that though there are surface differences, charismatics and non-charismatics have similar experiences of seeking God and being transformed by his love and his truth. However, they have different names for what they experience. Rather than dismiss the charismatic movement entirely, Packer concludes that "God is in it" (161). However, when charismatic experience is pointed to as proof for certain beliefs that are biblically mistaken, problems arise (p.162). There is insufficient Biblical evidence for a second blessing or baptism of the Spirit that believers are to seek. Tongues in Scripture are actual languages that are used for edification, and able to be interpreted. Modern tongues however are often not actual languages and their "[i]nterpretations prove to be as stereotyped, vague, and uninformative as they are spontaneous, fluent, and confident" (p.171). However, tongues can still be a blessing. But when they are, the source is "not the glossalalia as such but the state of mind of which it is said to be the evidence, or... the seeking for a greater fullness of the Spirit which preceded it."(p.171). He does this winsomely, looking for the positives of the charismatic movement and expressing throughout his thankfulness for what God is doing in the charismatic movement. Another strength is his attempt to make sense of what is really going on when people speak in tongues or give a prophecy, if it is not from God. Rather than brushing it off as a work of the Devil, Packer tries to reconcile a Biblical theology that doesn't support modern tongues and prophecy with the claimed positive spiritual benefit that people derive from these practices. I have often wondered how one would reconcile these two things and I found Packer's explanations convincing. Not all readers will be convinced but Packer's explanations present a more formidable challenge to charismatics than those who dismiss the whole charismatic endeavor as demonic. Packer doesn't dream of making such an assessment but throughout the book assumes that charismatic believers, by and large, are motivated by a deep love for God.Balanced, Biblically grounded, and pastorally sensitive, Keep in Step with the Spirit is a book that I plan to keep on my shelf, not only for reference but also to share with others. Finally, there is a book that on charismatic issues that I would feel comfortable giving to a charismatic friend.

Packer also discusses the inspiration and interpretation of Scripture, which many, many people have questions about. He also discusses the work of the Holy Spirit in revivals vs on a personal level.Now that I am older and I picked up this second edition again, I am convinced that it is just as relevant in this 21st century as it was years ago. I also think that many Christians desire biblical Christianity as a way of life and this book will steer you in that direction, at least it did for me. I highly, highly recommend it and if you have worked your way through, pick up " Knowing God " by the same author, you will be richly rewarded!

If you are puzzled by the Holy Spirit, or by all the different slants in various Christian circles on his ministry, you will find this book enlightening.Packer writes in a forthright, yet fair way. He does not seek to knock other views for the sake of it, but often shows how they have valuable insights, though they may be emphasising some things too greatly, or omitting other essentials.His book is not only about the Holy Spirit, and also features important teaching on the trinity, holiness, Christian living and bible reading.I think this book is every bit as good as Knowing God. I'm sorry that I have only just discovered it.The new edition includes a 2005 "Preface to the Preface" and a short chapter on assurance, entitled "Heaven on Earth -a Pentecost Exposition." They are worth reading, but maybe not worth the cost of a new book if your copy is still in good nick.Highly recommended.

His stories (told in generic terms because of confidentiality!) are ones where mom and dad go from sorrow and despair to hope and acceptance; even to sheer joy - and the book is a huge ingredient of moving them to that. If you or someone you know is touched by the beauty of a Downs baby, this is the book you give. This is the window into that world that we would all be so lucky to be touched by.

My wife really wanted to read this book, so I bought it. After reading it, I asked her what she thought. She was unimpressed. Being the parents of a child with Down Syndrome we have read lots of books on the topic and this one pales in comparison to almost all of the others, according to my wife.

I just started reading this book today and I am already almost done. I love everything about this book. I found myself crying tears of joy. It also helped me to realize how special I am that God chose me to be Raymond’s (the son of the authors) teacher. I would definitely recommend this book for parents, teachers, siblings, friends, therapists, doctors, etc.

This book is a Godsend for my practice where we deliver Down Syndrome babies. I give it to all of the parents who have a Down Syndrome baby. It's always a little scary for parents encountering it for the first time and "Windows Into Heaven" helps parents to understand that, first, they are not alone, and second, they have been given a gift few will receive in this lifetime. Really grew to book that explores the concepts behind the restaurant. With brief essays on topics the chef believes are important to his overall philosophy. Without having visited the restaurant you get a sense of the style and ideas behind the place. The style of the books seems a bit overused i.e. history of how he got to brae, a few stories of producers or produce, really beautiful photography.

Firstly, the book is great, I flipped through the pages and couldn't stop reading, finding so much inspiration in it. However, I was appalled by the condition in which I received it. Book corners were dented, hardcover ripped at the edges. Pages were folded.

This book also has stories and also includes an opportunity to understand more about the chef and his processes.Here is the deal, these ingredients are hard to find and expensive, get the heck over it, these techniques are difficult and very challenging to pull off. So, this is an advanced level cookbook for a Michelin starred restaurant. So, home cooks beware, if you are an average level cook looking for inspiration use this as a teaching guide on how to get better. I am tired of reading reviews for lazy people who think they can easily cook haute cuisine for their family.Please use this as a tool and dont feel discouraged if its too difficult, try again, and again and again until you get it right. This is a chef with 20 years plus cooking and it is one of the top 100 restaurants in the world. So, respect that, the ingredients and the message.
