I served with this RPCV in Nigeria during the highly turbulent times of which he writes. His straightforward style in telling his story is a very positive feature which will add to the reader's pleasure in engaging with the material which the book contains. Larry Gabriel writes both factually and with humor, adding strength to the material. He provides a worthy autobiographical example of the US Peace Corps' third goal, which is to bring home persons whose experiences abroad will benefit the US community both directly and indirectly. Nigeria was 'the hope of Africa' when it received its Independence from Britain in 1960. Roughly six years later, the first coup happened, which led to the Biafran war. It was a country of some60 million people in during 1966-'67, which was when Gabriel served with his program (Nigeria XX).
