Beautiful book, nice narrative, good story of Sue McGoven's experience with Monarchs and other butterflies. However, I was looking for a book with more step-by-step detail of what I can do to raise Monarchs, what challenges I might find and what she did to overcome those challenges. I could pick up some information I needed from reading her story and there was a bare-bones, smaller font list of instructions at the back of the book - almost an afterthought.How did she make the holes in her plastic boxes? How did she attach the screens? What problems did she find in creating a water source to hold stems that doesn't topple over, especially when moved around to clean the cage? What predators do I need to be aware of?Not sorry I bought the book, but I had to keep looking to get the practical information I needed. I got a copy of "How to Raise Monarch Butterflies - a Step-by-Step Guide for Kids (Carol Pasternak) which gave me some help, but I will keep checking the internet for more ideas.
I loved this book so much that I began to explore the idea of raising butterflies on my own. I just ordered a started kit from Amazon to give it a try. I believe I need to do something, even something small, to contribute to the environment.
I have purchased this book 3 times for three young friends. It is a valuable tool to help the dwindling Monarch population, and I just love educating young people about saving butterflies.
