I've been curious for a long time about setting up an aquarium, then I read this book. Wow! There's so much information here. The author doesn't just tell you how to set up the aquarium itself, but also describes different kinds of fish and what they eat and how often you need to feed them. He provides handy lists of what to buy, and directions for the three basic types of saltwater aquariums, and discusses how to decide where to place your aquarium in your home. He talks about the quality of the water you use, how to maintain the tank, and explains the equipment. He goes over a great many other subjects as well, including lists and tips and forms you can fill out to identify what you want to buy and what it might cost.This book is written in an easy-to-read style. The topics are organized in a logical manner that makes it simple to follow along. It contains an amazing amount of information. I highly recommend it if you are thinking of setting up a saltwater aquarium.
I have been looking at converting to a marine tank and this book is an awesome reference guide. It walks you through different filters, skimmers, heaters, and other equipment along with having a nice fish reference (what fish types work well with each other)and reef/rock/sand information. I downloaded it to my Kindle app on the Xoom and I was done reading it in a couple days. It is a short guide that gets to the point and gives up to date information as I believe it was published late 2011. If you are looking for a guide and a starting point, this book will assist you for sure.
This is a thoroughly researched and extremely well written book in simple language.David has obviously thought through every angle to make this very comprehensive guide.Just the Introduction alone is worth the price of the book, in which he coverstopics such as Pros and Cons of Aquariums, Health Benefits, Top 10 Rulesfor a Successful aquarium and a very comprehensive informationon Fish anatomy and much more...Again, this is just the introduction.If you are looking to setup an aquarium, or if you already have one and wouldlike to get the most of it, grab this book !
The Book is pretty precise in giving you the exact advise for starting down the road to saltwater Aquariums, As a veteran of keeping live fish happy, (That's tropical and ciclids until recently), I was fairly confident that I could switch over to salt fairly easy. But because of this book I was able to know the differences, The time-lines and the right equipment to use. I learned the cycles of the water, The correct lighting and the correct fish and cleaning critters, as well as reef organisms and supplemental info to keep all of your life thriving. It informs you on what could stress your fish or illnesses and how to doctor them back to health.. Filters to live rock, It has it all.. Knowledge well worth the time to read.
I can't have pets in my home and I yearn for companionship, so a friend suggested that I get this book.Honestly, I never thought of fish as a way to reduce my stress. Now, not only have I considered it, but I feel like I have a good start at understanding of the questions to ask and steps to take to make sure I set up my tank to make sure my fish live a long and healthy life.This book gives me the confidence and direction to feel like I can start an aquarium and have it be successful.
I thought this book would just be a primer - and would have been happy with that at the price.Instead, I found a book written with passion and expertise, showing exactly what to do and how to do it.I particularly like the step by step instructions and questions, and the responsible way David begins by explaining what not to expect from it and for whom an aquarium wouldn't be a good idea.It's beautifully written and presented and well worth more money than the author is asking.

It can give a beginner the confidence needed to get started, plus later serve as a handy reference for all phases of care and maintenance.It's obvious that years of personal, hands-on experience with saltwater aquaria is behind this book. The info is first-rate. And great photos! Just looking at them will make you want to go out and buy a tank--but wait--you need to get all the facts by reading this book first. It contains far more than the low price would indicate.
As a freshwater lover, I decided to begin the challenges of s saltwater aquarium. Whether you have a background in fish keeping or you're completely new to the hobby, this guide is for you. At 2.99 its a steal! That being said, this book does a great job touching on the basics, and my only complaint is that I wished there was more details on certain subjects, like equipment. However, it does include a pretty detailed index of species and other relevant topics. Bottom line- It's often frustrating to spend hours sifting the internet for good information (especially when you don't know what to search for!), and this book effectively brings it together in an easy-to-read format.
