Not big on writing reviews, still in school, don't have time for it but I wanted to spread the word. Right up until finals a majority of students in my class were failing OB. Not me. This book was my lifeline. The way the questions are worded prepared me for how the tests were going to be and by studying the rationales as well, I was able to critically think through the questions I wasn't sure of. No lie, I wouldn't have made it through without this book and the peds one as well.I am currently in my mental health quarter and have the Davis book for that as well. Once again, I am passing thanks to the Q&A format of these books. When I graduate, I'll find this Davis person and Kiss him on the lips!!One key advice, don't just ask and answer, really study the rationales because they are the key to the tests.Good luck!!
My professor was taking many questions from the different sections of this book and rewording them. The content of this book is broken down well. I found that reading this book and really paying attention to the incorrect answers, as well as the correct ones, gave me a huge edge in my OB nursing class. On my last exam of 35 questions, I recognized about 18 from this book. I didn't have to read and study the whole thing either. Just the parts that coincided with what we were being tested on. Recommend you spend more time with this and ignore your teachers suggestions to do all the case studies and all the Elsevier review questions, etc. Pretty much a waste of time based on the grades from the other students. Review class notes (power points) and do these questions. Some of my classmates who really seemed to know and love everything about OB did much worse on the exams than me, because they followed teacher suggestions on what to study which turned out to be a waste of time (in terms of testing, not knowledge). Additionally, the explanations provided in the book were well laid out. If I had just studied from this book the entire time I would have done even better.
This book is good... has a lot of good information, but there are TONS of errors. Clearly, it wasn't edited correctly. I've reviewed three secitons today and found three or four errors so far.
I have enjoyed other books in the Success series and found them helpful, but this book has so many obvious errors in the answer key that I can't trust this as a study resource. Given the life and death nature of nursing, the poor editing is quite shocking. Some of the questions themselves are thought provoking but with limited time to study, I can't waste time sifting through sloppy answer keys.
This is my 4th Davis Success book and they are great study tools, I had no complaints until this one. This book is riddled with contradictory rationale answers. For example, it will tell me that A&B are wrong at the top of the rationale and within the explanation say A&B are correct. Very difficult to study that way. I don't know who proofed this book but it is sub-standard for Davis and I'm very disappointed.
Absolutely love the success books. Being in an OB class now this book has helped me out a lot Love the fact that this book is broken up into sections on different topics which helps a lot with lectures to find the specific topic you're looking for.
I have yet to use the book, but purchased it based on other people's reviews. I am currently enrolled in a nursing program, and after reading the reviews I decided to buy this. I struggled through my last semester, and I think the reason why is that I didn't get extra resources like this. As I work through our 113, the labor and delivery course, I will post an updated review to let you know how helpful this was and suggest other books that were helpful to me. Stay strong students! I purchased this as an additional study aid for my OB course. I studied the questions that correlated with the content from class and often times there would be a question either from this book or a similar question on exams. This book is worth every penny and I did fairly well in this course! I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to do well in the course and wants to have an additional way to study for exams.
