Men have had their man caves, game rooms and what-have-you room. It's time for women to have a space of their own, and not another place to do some type of work; but, a place to call our own. A place that is cozy, pretty, decorated in a style for the woman that owns it, to do with it likes to do, just for her; weather it is to: read or write, knit, crochet, embroidery, needlepoint, sew or even to give her a place to grow plants. Giving a woman a space to call her own, give her a feeling of worth; for all the things she does for her family. A place to breath fresh air, see and feel the sunlight, or whatever she likes to do.In Ms. Kotie book “She Shed Style”, she shares ideas; that I hope will shed some light and inspire more sheds to get converted in to a She Shed. A book that is not only bold; but, beautiful, and gorgeously inspirations that, it is possible to create that space just right for the other side of life, a woman’s space. I give this book two-thumbs up and five-stars. A must have for all woman, for if nothing else; a dream book of a place of possibilities.

I had no idea that She Sheds were a thing, yet here we have the follow-on book to the one Ms Kotite gave us in early 2017. She Sheds are workrooms or cozy spaces out in the garden, the feminine alternative to the man cave. Sheds can be repurposed outbuildings or something prefab that you buy and then modify.Heating, natural air flow, mosquito control (!) and preventing interior mold must have been discussed in the first book because they aren't mentioned here. I can't imagine spending this much time and money for a smallish outdoor room that could only be used in good weather. In the places I live the sheds and everything in them would be mildewed in a week and freezing cold in the winter.If you have time and money to do this kind of project, you can get your ideas just as easily online.I received a review copy of "She Sheds Style: Make Your Space Your Own" by Erika Kotite(Quarto - Cool Springs) through NetGalley.com.

This book makes me so jealous, we have just moved house, and I had to leave my wonderful studio behind. Having read this book and drooled over all the wonderful photographs, picked up on some fabulous ideas, I am ready to build one - unfortunately I am probably not able, but the secret builder in me certainly wants to. - and you will too when you see these fabulous multi function little shed.They are what every women needs at the end of the garden, decorated by her hand and a place to get away from it all. This is what the doctor ordered.I love this book, I really is easy to follow with ideas and inspiration. There are some information on building some features but really not enough for one to tackle alone from scratch - but if you already have a shed or garage in your garden there are wonders you can do with it to make you your own with the ideas and inspiration from this book.

I'm an avid crafter who has my supplies in every room of my house in any bin or bag that will hold them. I've been dreaming of a she shed for awhile. I'd seen some completed projects in various magazines and publications but had not found anything that fit my needs and style, much less my budget. This book is full of ideas and guidance that will help you design any size/type of she shed you'd like. I not only found many great ideas, I used them to work up a plan that my husband has now agreed to build for me! Thank you, Erika Kotite!

I think quantum physics, quarks, thermodynamics are very easy for read to toddler. Descriptions are concise and accurate. Pictures contain lots informations for little one to explore. My toddler girl remember it fast and she can read those book herself.

Our now 3.5 year old toddler loves reading and this series is amongst our favourite. We have all 8 of them. We have started his first of this series since he was maybe 2.He loves the illustration, and simple and easy to follow explanation of concept appropriate for very young readers.I think he doesn't necessarily understand all of them yet but it is certainly relatable in many cases.As a mom it is great to see that he looks at the pictures and can recite them even though he doesn't actually know all the words.

I was really excited to see this book released! My one year old loves all books by Ruth Spiro and has been read them since birth. They're a wonderful way to introduce your little ones to STEM topics and the books can grow with them. The explanations are simple yet insightful. The pictures are adorable and help demonstrate the concepts well.

This is a charming and remarkably accurate introduction for younglings and the folks reading to them. Highly recommended

The baby loves series is one of my faves for my 1 year old-he loves them and we love that he’s learning! The green energy may be my favorite, it takes an important and difficult issue and perfectly presents it for a child. Plus the little girl in the book is SO CUTE!

The book itself is well written and easy to navigate, packed with lots of helpful info on astrology. I bought it to study up on astrology basics so I can understand more about the subject, so I was challenging myself to read a section a night. Unfortunately for me, I got one of the copies that has the pages all out of order and is missing an entire chunk of pages, which was just replaced by a second printing of the first chunk. Really disappointing. And on top of that, I didn't get around to reading it until right after the return window was closed, so now I'm stuck with an incomplete book. So just be advised, check your page numbers as soon as you receive your copy. Some others and myself have been receiving botched books.

Excellent book. I feel very comfortable with how much I learned. Astrology finally makes sense. I am no longer intimidated by aspects or houses.My book did not come with any software or even website reference. I really wish there were some exercises after all that I have learned. I feel I need to now apply all that I have learned and start practicing. But how do I know I am interpreting it correctly? That's why I feel i need some kind of a quiz to test my planets, houses, and aspects. I can look at my chart and come up with a lot of ideas but are they correct? I do not know. This is not the only book you will ever need. You will need to keep studying and practicing.

Way too basic to be "The only Astrology Book" you'll ever need. I have several other books that offer much more information and are still an easy read for a novice. Just disappointed there was so much bad generalizing, way to much importance on Sun sign, and breezed over pretty important stuff, if it mentions it at all. That said, if you're only interested in basics and are new, this book may be for you.

Would recommend!I was so excited about this book, but when I got it I noticed that the book I recieved was misprinted. My book goes from page 82 to page 51. One of the best astrology books I have ever read. It makes it easy to understand and read everything. And it explains how to do the numerology so you can do it and understand it. Great for a beginner or anyone that's already experienced in numerology and astrology.

This has been one of the most useful books I have ever purchased. I've returned to it time and time again for more clarification and understanding. The insight I have gained from this amazing book as made me kinder and more accepting of myself and others. It has helped me immensely along my journey. I've purchased a few copies over the years to give to friends, and their response has been very positive as well. If you are into astrology and want to learn more about the deeper levels and intricacies of astrology, thus is the perfect place to start!

The best book to study and read up on Astrology no matter how many times I read threw I always learn something else I didn't catch before

I am giving this two stars because the book was advertised as having a link for which you can access in order to do charts. I feel really foolish right now and irritated because I bought the other version of this book first, thinking it had a disk included to do charting and it turns out that it no longer does. I returned that one and order this one for my granddaughters birthday thinking it had the link to the website for the same purpose. Only to find out that the link is no longer active and now I have to come up with an alternative charting software, since I have a very disappointed teenager. When I went back to look at the reviews again that's when I noticed several reviews down that this is a problem with this book. Do not purchase this book if that's what you're expecting it to have a link for charting included. I will be contacting the publisher next with my feedback about this issue. They know better! Very irritated. :-(

George Barr is a photographer living in Calgary, Canada. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, took it a couple of photographs at a time in order to think about what the author and the individual photographers wrote. Most important for me, I enlarged my thinking about what I want to do with my own photography.I appreciate the criticism that some of the other comments make about the extent of (or lack of) technical information, whether or not the photographs were “great” or not, and the like. So much of this is subjective that I can’t really hang my hat on that kind of thing; I simply make my own evaluations and in this instance the book was well done, deserving of the reading I gave it, and in the end, satisfying.I tend to think that if I were to limit myself to only those photographs that were deemed “great” by others (good luck figuring out which ones to view and study) and books that fully achieved the promise of their titles or concepts, I wonder what I would end up viewing and reading after a month or so. There are so few books that actually attain that level, they fit on a single bookshelf at most. This book may not be great, but it is very good. It is also stimulating enough for me to wait for the author’s next offering.

George Barr writes in an eloquently simple style, and the format of this book (presenting an image and then discussing its compositional elements) is straightforward. The genius of the book, is that the author is able to "teach by example", and mold your approach to analyzing an image. By the end of the book, I often found myself able to anticipate what the author would say; in other words, I was learning how to analyze an image. This is not to say that the book is for "art critics". Rather, the author's point, is that as we learn to analyze an image, and become cognizant of the elements or constructs which make the image memorable and effective in conveying or eliciting a feeling, emotion, or reaction in the viewer, our own images improve. Once we have internalized the process, then we can (consciously at first, perhaps unconsciously later) look for these elements and constructs through our viewfinder as we compose a photograph. We learn to "see" and equally importantly to "feel" the image before we click the shutter. In some sense, you learn without even knowing you are studying! The images are excellent and represent a broad range of subjects and styles. (Each image is from a different photographer. The commentary by the photographer, which follows George Barr's analysis, is also interesting and informative.) I enjoyed the book, I learned from the book, and truly did not want it to end. Highly recommended.

This book is about analyzing images by other photographers from the author's points of view, while the author himself appears to be an amateur photographer or the like. The book idea is a bit strange, because everyone has different view about a photo image and how the views of one man should be gathered and published into a big heavy volumn is quite odd. I hate to say that the book is about being so smart after the fact, and it may just entice people to copy what have been done. A lot of the well known images have been talked over by the photographers who took them. It has little value to beginners who want to learn some basics and to advanced amateurs who want to enhance their art creation. But it's fair to say that gathering images and essays from over 50 photographers is an extraordinary effort, it takes a lot of patience and hard work just to put them together into a book. The sheer effort and determination of the author well deserve respect.

To begin with, 5 stars for the chutzpah of this effort!! Which, for the most part, is a vision realized. There was bound to be disagreement on the choices of the "great images" (I can think of any number of others from Michael Kenna, for instance) but that's the nature of the beast, given the expanse of photographic art. I'm also impressed with the quality of the reproductions, and the inclusion of the photographer's perspective. If there is a nit to pick, I was looking for more detailed analyses of the how and why of the magic, perhaps along the lines of a Richard Zakia treatment, but that would be a whole different book. This, in the meantime, is one to savor, and one for the ages.

I have purchased scores of photography books. I primarily purchase books of a single artist's photographs and like to study the images in order to improve my own skill and eye. This book contains 52 photographs accompanied by a detailed description of what makes the image 'work' as well as reflections and biographical information from the artist. I read every single word and studied each image as I read. It was the most amazing photography teaching/learning experience I have ever had (with the exception of one 5 day emersion workshop I attended)! Absolutely outstanding. The images that the author included are extremely varied - color, b&w, digital, chemical, large format, iPhone, older, new, straight, manipulated, multiple exposures, experimental processes, traditional capture and processing, experienced/professional photographers, new-kids-on-the-block - making the entire reading experience very expanding and inspirational. There were many photographs I loved and others that I would not personally have been drawn to but for which I acquired a new appreciation after reading the text. I have been so energized by this book and most highly recommend it to any photographer at any level who likes to look at the work of other photographers and learn to understand why a particular photograph works.

Gaiman's Sandmen graphic novels and comics exhibited a fertile and grand imagination. What's interesting about Gaiman's massive book are all the influences he sites and thanks at the end; Harlan Ellison, Terry Prachett and many, many others. Those influences are telling in American Gods. You can just about see the influences leaking through the cracks including Ellison's Deathbird story cycle. What it most reminds me of, though, is a cross of Stephen King's The Stand and his Gunslinger series. Gaiman still manages to create a work that is uniquely his own despite the melding influences evident in his work.American Gods focuses on an interesting premise; when people stop believing in gods do they die or just retire? Gaiman's novel posits a conflict between the gods of old (Odin a number of mythological gods from Celtic culture and many, many others)and the gods modern America has created; the gods of the media and technology battle the gods of older, forgotten cultures. Caught in the middle of this is a cypher of a character named Shadow. Just released from prison for an assault, he's looking forward to seeing his wife and resuming his old job at a work out facility. Suddenly, he's faced with no past or future; his wife is killed in an accident and the job prospect dries up.He's recruited by a character he meets on an airplane ("call me Wednesday"). Wednesday seems to know more about Shadow than Shadow himself. Although he isn't interested at first, the job and character intrigue him. He takes it and suddenly finds himself thrust into a weird world of gods who have become con artists to survive and a pawn in a battle between the forces of what was and what is.Gaiman's style throughout most of the novel reminds me of Stephen King. That isn't necessarily bad; Gaiman's strength is in his use of metaphors and similes. It's in his ability to tell a story with a convoluted narrative without the reader losing track of the point of origin and the point of destination. Again, the similarities are more to Ellison and King than any of his other contemporaries.What American Gods lacks, though, is strong character development. Shadow is merely a cypher for much of the story. Yes, we know things about him but he's more important for what he represents (a character for the reader to identify with as the narrative becomes stranger) than what he is. In King's finest work his ability to distill and create memorable characters can outshine some of the silly plots. While Gaiman is still finding his way with creating complex characters that function within the tapestry of the narrative, it doesn't detract from the strong metaphorical stories he creates.I wouldn't say that Gaiman has arrived as a novelist yet. He shows considerable promise. While there's still some debate as to whether American Gods deserved the Hugo Award for best novel, I can't think of a better structured, dense and entertaining narrative for the year it was nominated. I'm looking forward to Gaiman's further novels. Hopefully he can mature into the writer his work promises he'll become. From all indications, I'd say that it's a safe bet he'll be writing entertaining, interesting stories for some time to come.

This is the 10th anniversary edition that I'm reviewing, which means that there should be 10 years worth of reviews already, and anyone who is a Neil Gaiman fan will have already read it.That said, here goes: it an old idea that you've seen before in a couple of Star Trek episodes and who knows elsewhere: the Greek gods or some other gods (in this case, pretty much all gods, in any pantheon that ever existed) are (or were) real! They derive their power from being worshiped, and only die if they are forgotten.The twist: believers bring their gods with them when they emigrate. We have old world gods in the new world. New gods don't get along with the old ones, and a conflict ensues.We follow one individual, Shadow, who isn't himself a god, but who might be employed by one, on journeys to various odd locations in the U.S. which are focal points of power. Not knowing much lore, he nevertheless has to do his best to fulfill his employer's missions, feeling his way through potential dangers and political intrigue.

Dear, dear how I've loved this book. After a long hiatus from reading novels, I picked this one up on the basis of others' reviews. It was everything that I could have asked for in a fantasy novel: a diverse set of compelling characters, a sense of mystery and doom, emotional connection, a sense of history intertwining with the present. Clearly a modern classic and, though it is set in America, a work that plays with the idea of interweaving history, fantasy, and action in a way that is reminiscent of the the classics of the fantasy genre. A beautiful book and a world and vision that I hope Gaiman continues to explore for years to come.

As the title of this review clearly states, I saw the TV series before I read this book, in fact I did not know this book existed and I was quite certain that it would not be a book I would enjoy reading, after all, the series revealed all the secrets.Well I was wrong this book is full of highways and byways, I touched in the series treatment and in fact has more depth than those eight epidodes could ever dream of and although it never got to the end of the book, in fact it did not even make it to the House on the Rock, the series was an excellent way for me to pick up something that I should have read years ago.The characters all fully drawn, the plot is well paced and the author is true to his premise throughout, which for me anyhow make this a five star book. When archetypes are needed they are used and used with a deliciously ironic effect. This is the sort of book I could put down and come back to, until of course I received the final chapters. Although the ending is foreshadowed more than once, and I will not spoil any else's enjoyment of this book by pointing it out, I was caught up in the narrative that I could not suspend my disbelief for long enough to puzzle it out. Although I look forward to another season of American Gods, knowing what I know now, will certainly allow me to cast a more critical eye on the transformation of this delightful adventure to the small screen, and I expect great things from the screen writers as they weave the rest of this tale into their streaming video offering.

As described, came promptly and was very helpful in planning an impromptu trip.

Took this on our trip to Denver & Boulder. Great book!

I used this book to plan a 6 day trip to Denver, Colorado Springs and Boulder. The book gave useful information on the most interesting sights to see in each city, with the Denver activities grouped by sections of the city.

Excellent guide for planning a family vacation.

Bought as a graduation present for a student attending college in Colorado.

I was very disappointed starting with the map on the first page. Clearly the person who produced this map knows nothing about Colorado; Pikes Peak at 4303', Mt. Evans at 4335'..., and no mention of Longs Peak - all of which are 14ers (not lower than Denver). The rest of the book mentions obvious activities and far too much mention of the Cannabis industry. The best part of this book is the picture on the front cover.
